The Oscar-Winning Actor Could Be Just What The HBO Series Needs To Get Its Groove Back
Rumors have been swirling around the web for the past month that Moonlight’s Oscar-Winning Actor Mahershala Ali was in talks to star as the lead in the third season of HBO’s True Detective. According to Deadline, it’s no longer a rumor. Ali will star in the anthology series’ third season.
While the third season has yet to see a green light, this casting gets the project one step closer to happening. HBO’s President of Programming, Casey Bloys, says he’s read five finished scripts. Here’s what Bloys had to say about the ideas he’s read:
“They are terrific. … I was very impressed and excited. We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go.”
Season Three will fall along the same lines as the previous two seasons. Consisting of an all new cast and a new storyline. So anyone expecting Matthew McConaughey to return as Rust Cohle can put aside those hopes of seeing him again.
As a big fan of True Detective, I can’t wait for another great mystery to dive into. While Season One is no doubt a masterpiece, I wasn’t as disappointed as most with Season Two. The fact that there are five finished scripts being considered is interesting. Perhaps we will see more than just a third season of the show.
We will keep a close eye on this project. So stay tuned for more news.
