Director Brett DeJager Brings Us The Next Horror Monster To Gain A Cult Following
Blood, guts, and laughs. That’s what the latest horror/comedy Bonejangles hopes to give its audience. Director Brett DeJager weaves together a tale of murderous fun that gives horror fans a new slasher movie bad guy that will even make Jason Voorhees rethink his life. (You can read our review of the film here)
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
While transporting the legendary serial killer Bonejangles to an asylum, a group of police officers break down in a town cursed with demonic zombies. The only way they can survive the night and save the town is to release Bonejangles to help them fight the curse, with something much worse.

We got a chance to talk with Bonejangles director Brett DeJager. Check it out:
Supchucks: What inspired this rather unique – and very fun – particular story?
Brett DeJager: That’s a great question for the Keith Melcher. The guy has so many stories bottled up in that brain of his.
Supchucks: Did you sit down and watch similar movies before shooting?
Brett DeJager: Absolutely! I binged watched horror movies the entire month leading up to shooting as well as throughout pre-production. I made sure to watch the classic horror films with comedic undertones such as Dead Alive, Dale and Tucker vs. Evil, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead, and House. We had a lot of great ideas for animatronics and practical effects that were inspired by Army of Darkness; however, due to last minute unforeseen issues, we weren’t able to really pull them off.
Supchucks: In terms of directing choices, anyone you emulated here?
Brett DeJager: That’s a really tough question. I tried to just do my own thing; however, I cannot deny that I was inspired by Steve Miner and Ethan Wiley who wrote/directed House I and House II, respectively. That movie franchise was a huge inspiration for me on Bonejangles and currently is.
Supchucks: Do you think you’ll return to these characters one day?
Brett DeJager: Absolutely! If it were up to Keith Melcher and me we’d already be filming Bonejangles 2 and 3. The scripts are already done on those films so hopefully, fans love Bonejangles, and we get to complete the trilogy.
Supchucks: Do you consider the film a success only when it hits a certain monetary figure?
Brett DeJager: Our investors sure would appreciate Bonejangles to hit a certain monetary figure so there is always that aspect, but I think the idea of Bonejangles somehow being a cult hit for horror fans is extremely appealing. I just want to make movies that people enjoy but with that said the reality is producers and investors need to make money so we can continue making horror movies!
Supchucks: Has the movie opened doors for you?
Brett DeJager: It definitely has helped me to network farther outside of my local circle. Overall, the filmmaking world is so small it seems and getting attached to projects has a lot to do with connections and who you know. I’m hoping that once Bonejangles is released it will show horror fans, producers, and investors that I’m the guy they can count on in terms of making a movie that audiences will like. I consider myself a horror movie fan through and through and hopefully that shows in my movies.
Supchucks: Thanks, Brett!
