The Iconic Fantasy Series From Robert Jordan Finally Finds A Production Studio
Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy novel series The Wheel of Time finally finds a production studio. According to Variety, Sony Pictures Television will produce the series for television. Adapting the series into a live-action series as had a long development process but this moves it one step closer to hitting the screen.
The high fantasy series from Jordan consists of 14 novels in total. The first novel in the series, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990. While the last three novels were finished after Jordan’s death in 2007, by Brandon Sanderson. The final book, A Memory of Light, hit books shelves in 2013. The books tell the story of the quest to find the Dragon Reborn. The prophecy says the Dragon will unite the world to defeat The Dark One.
Sony has already picked a showrunner for the series, Rafe Judkins. Judkins will write and executive produce the series and he’s best known for his work on ABC’s Agents of Shield and NBC’s Chuck. Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal will serve as the show’s consulting producer.
The Wheel of Time is still looking for a network to pick it up. However, with the recent success of HBO’s Game of Thrones that shouldn’t be too difficult. Especially with a studio now behind the project. When we hear more news regarding the show’s production, we will be sure to let you know.
