The Marvel/DC Rivalry Takes A Backseat For Whedon To Do His ‘Batgirl’ Movie…
A couple weeks ago, it was announced that Joss Whedon would be writing and directing the DC Extended Universe’s Batgirl movie. This was a big surprise since the creative mind has been on Team Marvel for a long time after directing the first two Avenger films and consulting on other projects. Switching to Team DC to do a film seems like a big no-no when you think of the two comic books companies long rivalry.
However, it turns out that Joss Whedon got the A-Okay from Marvel Studio’s President Kevin Feige. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige had this to say:
“He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him, and we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”
With an attitude like this, you know Feige is just a fan of comic books in general. Everyone should be super-psyched for Whedon to bring Barbara Gordon to life. Joss has a long career of making strong female characters with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse. With a track record like Whedon’s, Batgirl is in good hands and she could really use an honorable adaptation.
We are just waiting for news on who will portray the purple-caped crusader. When we hear the first casting news, we will let you know.
