The War For The Planet Of The Apes Director Starts From Scratch For His Noir-Driven Detective Batman Film
The road to the next standalone Batman film, The Batman, has been a long and bumpy one. Star Ben Affleck was first signed on to both act and direct the film. However, after his stint in rehab, he decided to step down from that added responsibility. The film was then delayed as the search for a new director began for Warner Bros. Luckily, they quickly found a replacement in War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves.
Reeves has been busy wrapping up post-production and a press tour for his Planet of the Apes film, which hits theaters this week. So he hasn’t gotten a chance to really dive into The Batman yet. We already know the script was being reworked after new director Matt Reeves signed on to replace Affleck. However, Reeves on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast this week said the efforts are going further and they are rewriting the script completely. So Ben Affleck’s script is out. Matt Reeves’ story is in.
We know Reeves wants to make a “Noir-Driven Detective” Batman film. Furthermore, I’m sure Affleck, with his writing skills and his love for the character, will be onboard to help Reeves in any way he can to knock out a great new script.
The Batman doesn’t have a set release yet. However, with Comic-Con happening next week and Reeves finally done with War for the Planet of the Apes, perhaps we will see a big announcement. We can only hope as Batman fans!
