Don’t Expect To Know The Actress Behind The Purple Cowl of Joss Whedon’s Batgirl

Speaking to Variety at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 world premiere, Joss Whedon gave some thoughts about who he might cast to play Batgirl.  What he reveals give us a few details about what kind of Barbara Gordon to expect.  First of all, it sounds like this might be a younger Batgirl.  Consequently, we will probably see the characters origin story.

“I have so many things to say about her,” Whedon told Variety, “I’m very excited to see a girl in the cowl.”

When the writer/director was asked if he had anyone in mind for the role Whedon had this to say:

“I doubt it’ll be a name, I think this is somewhere where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her […] I mean, I’m not against movie stars, they’re great, but you need somebody who is just right. and a situation with this, the name carries a lot of weight so it’s not as critical. Definitely Vin Diesel.”

Additionally, you can catch the video interview here:

Batgirl has always been one of my favorite heroes in the Batman universe.  I can remember watching the classic Adam West TV show as a kid and getting excited every time I saw the hero speeding through the opening credits on her Batbike.  That always meant Barbara would be showing up in the episode.

From the sounds of the interview, Whedon doesn’t have a star in mind for the role and will probably have a long casting process.  So don’t expect Emma Stone or Chloe Grace Moritz to put on the cowl.  However, whoever they cast will likely become Hollywood’s next big star.

Now You Know Whassup, Chucks!
