If Anyone Can Pull Off A Live-Action Genie Without Robin Williams Around, It’s Will
The genie from Aladdin is many peoples favorite Disney character. Largely because of the great late Robin Williams amazing comedic genius behind the blue wish-grantor. Now, with the success of Beauty and the Beast, Disney is grabbing all their classic animated tales to adapt into live-action musicals. While Williams would be the perfect person to portray the Genie again, if here were still here, Will Smith seems like a worthy successor for the role.
If Robin Williams were still around, everyone would say he has to play the genie in Guy Ritchie’s live-action adaptation. However, the world lost the amazing actor in 2014, so debating someone replacing him really isn’t in the cards. If anyone can fill the shoes and give the Genie an original and unique portrayal, without spoiling the classic animated version, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air has the tools. I don’t think anyone would complain that this casting would ruin their childhood.
Just imagine Will rapping as the Genie and telling Aladdin, through song, he only has three wishes. You can just hear it in your head it works so well. They almost have to cast Will Smith after this news.
According to Deadline, the film begins shooting in July. Additionally, the production is scheduled to last a long six months, which is a long project for actors to consider. Hopefully, Smith takes the opportunity. I don’t think anyone else could pull it off.
You can catch Guy Ritchie’s next film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword in theaters on May 12, 2017. Meanwhile, Will Smith is in between projects at the moment with nothing slated for release this year. We will keep you updated on any new developments for Aladdin.
